Local ophthalmologist named top cataract surgeon

Dr. Mark Lobanoff, an ophthalmologist at North Suburban Eye Specialists in Coon Rapids and Blaine, was named 2013 Top Surgeon in the U.S. by Sightpath Medical for the second consecutive year.

Lobanoff completed his pre-medical training at Duke University before moving on to medical school at the University of Michigan. In 1995 he was awarded a Howard Hughes Research Fellowship and spent a year performing eye research at the National Eye Institute in Washington, D.C., one of the most advanced eye research facilities in the world. From 1998 to 2001, Lobanoff trained at the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta where he learned the latest in ophthalmic surgical techniques and post-operative care. After Emory he went on to train at the University of Minnesota, completing a yearlong fellowship in corneal and LASIK surgery. Prior to moving from Colorado to Minnesota, Lobanoff worked in private practice and was on staff at the University of Colorado’s Department of Ophthalmology.
