Metro council suggests SLP modify plans

The Metropolitan Council recommended March 21 that Spring Lake Park consider some modifications to its comprehensive plan in order to be consistent with metropolitan planning. The council recommended that Spring Lake Park develop a wetlands ordinance, establish buffering between residential and non-compatible developments, and evaluate the impact of the Northtown Shopping Center.

Racetrack loses down home stretch

The end was swift. In a short time span of only a few minutes, the supporters of the Minnesota Meadows race track in Blaine saw their dreams, plans and dollars swept away as the Minnesota Racing Commission on a five to four first ballot select the Shakopee race track site proposal as the one to receive Minnesota’s class “A” license for horse racing.

Zikmund receives fire service award

Wednesday morning began typically enough with a shift meeting at station 3. But for one member of the Blaine-Spring Lake Park-Mounds View Fire Department the morning was a special one. District Chief Nyle Zikmund was presented an award from the Congressional Fire Services Institute by Sixth District Congressman Rod Grams. The award recognizes Zikmund for his community service. Zikmund is the coordinator of the public fire education and juvenile firesetters programs.
