Boys golf preview

Andover
Coach: John Anderson, 12th season
Outlook: Andover returns two all-Northwest Suburban Conference golfers in Sam Steinwand and Seth Lawrence, along with seniors Erik Wagner and Brad Williams and sophomore Austin Meissner. These golfershelped the Huskies place fourth in the conference and third in Section 7AAA.

Anoka
Coach: Doug Orr, 17th season
Outlook: Coming off a fifth place finish in the Section 5AAA tournament and seventh place finish in the Northwest Suburban Conference, Anoka coach Douglas Orr believes the combination of youth and experience will help them a lot this spring.
Look for senior captain and 2013 all-conference honoree Max Savini to pace the squad, along with sophomore Ben Hauge.
Savini will play from the No. 1 spot with his play and senior leadership.

Coon Rapids
Coach: Larry Overskei, 38th season
Outlook: With the nucleus from a ninth place finish in the Northwest Suburban Conference returning, look for senior captains Dylan Brovick and Sam Marquis to shoot low along with sophomore duo Mike Elsen and Mike Fredrickson to lead the way for longtime coach Larry Overseki’s squad.
The Cardinals kick off the season as host of the Bunker Hills Invite, April 17.

PACT Charter
Coach: Adam McMorrow, first season
Outlook: New coach Adam McMorrow joined PACT after serving as an assistant varsity soccer coach at Cooper and before that in San Luis, Ariz.
The Panthers bring back key contributors Danny Mooers and Caleb Lindeman from last spring with several young golfers ready to make an impact at the varsity level like Matt Newland and Kyle Newland.

Spring Lake Park
Coach: Will Wackman, 10th season
Outlook: The two-time defending North Suburban Conference team champions will look to go out on top in the final season for the conference, returning with five of six golfers from the squad that finished the season third in Section 5AAA.

Four all-conference members return in seniors Pete Sienko, Nick Turnquist, Jack Hiemenz, Tanner Ylvisaker and honorable mention honoree Brett Bolf.
Sienko placed 26th at the state meet.
Eight players will compete for a spot on the varsity team and that internal competition should better prepare the team for the conference and section tournaments.
The conference agreed to 10 18-hole matches, in what Wackman says is more like the section format, “and hopefully prepares us for conference and section tournaments.”

St. Francis
Coach: Andy LaHoud, second season
Outlook: Look for three Saints to compete for the top spot in senior captain Kyle Wagner, junior captain Taylor McMorrow and sophomore Tanner Engberg.
A large junior class will look to fill a void left by last year’s seniors and experience will only help that, especially when it comes to playing in a new conference (Mississippi 8). “The boys have been doing yoga in preparation for the upcoming season,” LaHoud said. “They have been able to increase their flexibility, balance and strength through the workouts.”
