Anoka County is planning to widen 125th Avenue (County Highway 14) in Blaine from two lanes to four lanes from Radisson Road to just east of Harpers Street, and project leaders want to hear what residents have to say.
An open house will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Blaine City Hall, 10801 Town Square Drive NE.
No formal presentation is planned. The format gives people an opportunity to ask questions one-on-one or in an informal group setting as they talk with county and city staff and the consultant design team from Short Elliot Hendrickson Inc.
The new four-lane road would be divided with a median with the exception of occasional breaks, such as at Cloud Drive and Harpers Street, which are being evaluated for traffic signals. Curb and gutter would be added to direct the flow of stormwater.
This project is tentatively slated for a 2015 groundbreaking. Anoka County had planned to widen this segment starting in 2016, but the Blaine City Council in December 2013 voted to front the $450,639 cost of the SEH consulting firm out of St. Paul to complete the preliminary and final design work.
This is the first open house for the engineers to hear what the public has to say. These comments can subsequently be used for potential redesigns that would be recapped at future open houses.
