You may have seen two ladies riding horses on the sidewalks of busy streets in Anoka, Coon Rapids or Ramsey Monday, April 21.
Amanda Berg would not normally ride a horse to work every day. After all, it took about seven hours to complete the 16-mile round-trip between her Ramsey home and the Coon Rapids bank where she works.
But after encouragement from some co-workers and really wanting to try it, Berg and her friend Jessica Schoepke took the long ride to and from Ramsey to BMO Harris Bank in Coon Rapids. They stopped long enough at the bank for people to pet the horse and for the horses to eat some grass before they began the journey back to Ramsey.
Berg has a 7-year-old half-quarter and half-Arabian horse named Sebastian. Schoepke has a 10-year-old quarter-horse named Bell. They often ride together and sometimes with Schoepke’s sister in Ramsey to Elmcrest Park or to area golf courses.
“It was pretty cool. I didn’t think we would make it that far,” said Berg, a 2012 Blaine High School graduate. Schoepke graduated from Zimmerman High School in 2012.
