More than 150 teams showcased their creative problem-solving skills at the state Destination Imagination tournament April 12.
Six of the 10 participating Anoka-Hennepin teams earned a trip to Global Finals – a record for the district.
One team from Spring Lake Park’s Lighthouse School will advance to Global Finals as well.
The teams advancing are as follows: Blaine High School’s DIYs and Merry Band of Misfits; Franklin Elementary School’s Rainbow Griflemalofagas Unicorns; Jackson Middle School’s Tween Team; Johnsville Elementary’s The Rosemary Chickens; Roosevelt Middle School’s One, Two, Three … Action!; and Lighthouse School’s The Jelly Bean Players.
Global Finals are set to occur May 21-24 in Knoxville, Tenn. More than 8,000 students on 1,300 teams from across the world are set to participate.
Destination Imagination encourages teams to develop an innovative, creative solution for one of seven complex challenges. Students apply science, technology, engineering and math, in addition to improvisation, theater arts, writing, project management, communication, innovation, teamwork and community service skills. They are rated on various components for each challenge.
