When Alan (Big Al) Mevissen died suddenly March 4, his passion and love for music never left the stage.
An extended family of musical brothers and sisters, determined to extend Big Al’s musical passions, is throwing a two-day musical marathon to raise money for an Al Mevissen Musical Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The two-day event takes place May 3 and 4 at JR’s OutPost (6141 U.S. highway 10, Ramsey).
The event kicks off at 11 a.m. May 3 with a bike run ($10 suggested donation to participate). Starting at the OutPost, bikers on the run will stop by Mac & Chester’s SRO, Short Stop Coon Rapids, and Holly’s River City Saloon before returning to the OutPost about 3 p.m.
Alex “Crankshaft” Larson will provide entertainment at all of the stops along the route.
The 15-hour FYOB (For Your Own Benefit) bash continues throughout the day and night, ending at 2 a.m. May 4 and including live music, a payback cribbage tournament ($5 entry fee), food and drink specials all day and night, drawings for door prizes, Law Band CD sales, and T-shirt sales – all to raise money for the scholarship fund.
A memorial music jam for Big Al takes place 2-6 p.m. May 4 at JR’s OutPost and will be hosted by The Naked Cowboys, who will provide entertainment along with the Sam Kuusisto Band.
Not only that, former members of The Law Band and the Killebrews (Big Al’s most recent bands) are invited to come and sit in, as well as all other musicians and vocalists – The Naked Cowboys promise to get as many of them on the stage as time will allow.
