Fundraiser to help those with mental illness

The Lee Carlson Center for Mental Health and Well-Being is hosting a breakfast fundraiser for Bridgeview 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 20. Tickets are on sale now.

The breakfast will be at the Harvest Grill, 12800 Bunker Prairie Rd. NW, at Bunker Hills Regional Park in Coon Rapids. The guest speaker will be Dr. Henry Emmons, author of “The Chemistry of Joy” and  “The Chemistry of Calm.”

Tickets are $25 each or you could purchase eight seats at a designated table for $200 for this continental breakfast. Contact Patty Halvorson, marketing and development manager for the center, at 763-230-7836 or [email protected] to learn more or to reserve your space.

Funding from Anoka County played a key role in getting the Bridgeview Community Support Program up and running, but fundraising efforts like this breakfast help with operational costs for this expanding program, according to Halvorson.

Bridgeview has helped adults with serious and persistent mental illnesses since 1983. This past September it moved its drop-in center from Spring Lake Park to Fridley. The move resulted in nearly doubling its space from 2,200 square feet to about 5,000.

Lee Carlson Center hired a new care coordinator to not only help those with mental illnesses navigate the health care system, but to also help in their pursuit for housing and employment. A new peer support specialist is leading support groups. Bridgeview now has six employees when accounting for these two new positions, Halvorson said.

“It’s been going really good,” Halvorson said. “Members love it and we’re getting new members.”
