“Minnesota! Nice!” means music, desserts and live and silent auction items delight the masses during the Twin Cities Women’s Choir Divas and Desserts gala staged May 9 and 10 at St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Avenue South, Minneapolis.
Anoka resident Emily Newberg performs with the women’s choir during the gala as the concert features musical stories about growing up and living in Minnesota, and what is treasured most about calling this state home.
In keeping with the choir’s mission to support new choral music by and for women, two new works written specifically for the gala concert will be premiered:
• “Bdote,” a piece written by Minnesota composer Janika Vandervelde and supported by donations to a project funded through GiveMN. (“Bdote” is a Dakota Indian word meaning “where two waters come together.”)
• “Funkytown Remix,” a piece sponsored by the Carol Rue Commission Fund and composed by Twin Cities Women’s Choir’s assistant director, Randi Grundahl Rexroth.
Also part of the gala, a silent auction begins at 6:30 p.m. each evening; doors open at 7 p.m. for seating for the 7:30 p.m. concert performance and live auction.
Pre-sale admission ($25 for adults; $22 for seniors and students) is available at TwinCitiesWomensChoir.org or by calling 612-333-8292.
The cost for all tickets purchased at the door is $30.
