New shopping center proposed

Lakeland Development Company brought to Spring Lake Park City Council Monday evening a proposal for a new shopping center to be called Middletown. The proposed shopping center, which will include seven small buildings and one large mall-type center, will be located on the parcel of land abutting Highway 10 and Highway 65.

District 16 school board chairman resigns

The chairman of School District 16 school board announced his resignation Tuesday night effective July 1, 1984. Charles (Chuck) Gooder, who has been chairman since 1981, will be moving to Houston, TX where he has accepted the position as an administrator in the department of internal medicine at the University of Texas Medical Center. Gooder has been an administrator in the same department at the University of Minnesota hospital.

Tending to Mother Nature

Combine 60 sixth grade students and 230 trees and you get a hustling bunch of activity. After a few quick lessons on how to properly plant the trees from the city of Blaine personnel, the Roosevelt Middle School students quickly went to work planting, watering and adding mulch to the trees. Some 230 trees were planted at Sunnyside Park, Blaine, May 10, just one of many Arbor Month activities taking place throughout the county.
