The Minnesota Interscholastic Athletic Administrator’s Association (MIAAA) recently named Eric Lehtola, Andover High School’s activities director, the Region 7AA Athletic Administrator of the Year.
“It really means a lot because the award comes from my peers,” Lehtola said.
Lehtola, who has been the activities director at Andover for 13 years, received the award at a March 27 recognition banquet held during the MIAAA state conference.
“All of us (activities directors) work so hard at our jobs. It’s a job like no other,” he said. “But I think my coaches and the parents in the community appreciate my knowledge and vision and the fairness and consistency I use when facing the challenges that inevitably arise.”
According to the MIAAA, Lehtola is an active member of the MIAAA and several state and national organizations, and chairperson for the MIAAA 7AA Regional Committee. He’s also the longest-standing activities director in the Northwest Suburban Conference.
Lehtola said the Andover community is an inspiration in his work. “I have been other places that lack the sense of identity that our community carries,” he said. “There is a pride here. We have great kids, great teachers, great coaches and great parents.”
