Guilty plea for damage at hotel

Twice responding to the Inn Town Suites, 430 Coon Rapids Blvd., the morning of Aug. 20, 2013, on reports of a tenant causing damage, Coon Rapids Police arrested a suspect.

Dustin Michael Loberg, 31, entered a guilty plea in Anoka County District Court April 7 to a charge of felony criminal damage to property in excess of $1,000 and will be sentenced June 12.

The early morning hours of Aug. 20, Coon Rapids Police went to the motel on a call of a tenant breaking out his room window, arguing with other residents, making racial slurs and throwing empty beer bottles out of the window.

According to the complaint, when officers made contact with the suspect, who was identified as Loberg, he was attempting to clean up the broken glass and told police he would rather go to bed than to jail.

Police were called back to Inn Town Suites shortly before 11 a.m. because when Loberg was told to leave the motel, he slammed the east door against the building, breaking the glass window in door in several places, bending the steel door and breaking the security handle as well as the lock.

Damage to the door was estimated at $850, while the room window Loberg smashed had an estimated $350 in damage.

In a post-Miranda statement, Loberg admitted to causing the damage.
