Wearing a uniform is a memorable part of the Scouting experience, yet many families cannot afford to purchase one. To help meet that challenge, Pilgrim Cleaners is announcing its seventh annual communitywide used uniform collection campaign beginning on July 1.
During July, all 25 Pilgrim Cleaner locations will accept donated Scout uniforms, clean them and deliver them to the Northern Star Council, Boy Scouts of America, for distribution to Scouts in need. Special emphasis is being made to collect Cub Scout uniforms — the familiar blue shirts — which is the uniform needed most. Boy Scout, Venturer and adult leader uniforms are also needed, as well as uniform parts such as belts, neckerchiefs and hats.
To find the nearest Pilgrim Cleaners location, visit pilgrimdrycleaners.com and stop by during regular business hours, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Uniforms may also be dropped off at both the St. Paul Scout Service Center (393 Marshall Ave.) and the Golden Valley Scout Service Center (5300 Glenwood Ave.) between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
For those who do not have uniforms to donate, contributions of any amount are welcomed. Send to Northern Star Council BSA, Attn: Uniform Drive, 393 Marshall Ave., St. Paul, MN 55102.
The need for uniforms continues to be great. Research shows that thousands of Northern Star Council youth members are from families of limited resources. This campaign has collected more than 2,500 uniforms since it began in 2007.
Northern Star Council appreciates all who contribute to this effort and is pleased to work with Pilgrim Cleaners, a community-minded business based in Brooklyn Park that started the original “Coats for Kids” program 28 years ago, as well as additional uniform collection drive sponsors ECM-Sun Newspapers and KARE 11.
