Spring Lake Park High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America found success at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference last week.
Five students competed in hot and humid San Antonio, Texas, July 7.
Rising Seniors Josh Anderson, Rick Osborne and Alex Pierce and rising sophomores Alexandria Halvorson and Isabella Moorman journeyed down south with Spring Lake Park High School FCCLA adviser Lori Henry to participate in the conference.
On July 10, students were recognized for outstanding performances.
Anderson and Pierce received a gold award with a score of 95.3 out of 100 for their project.
Halvorson and Moorman also won gold, earning 96 out of 100.
The group took home two national awards as well.
At the business session, Spring Lake Park was named runner-up for its career connection project. Members were awarded a plaque and $500.
At the closing session, students received third place for leadership service in action. The honor came with a plaque and $100.
Henry and the students returned home July 11.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a national student organization that encourages the development of leadership skills that students can take with them beyond high school into their future occupations.
The theme of the 2014 conference was inspiring students to “soar.”
