The third-annual Bands Against Cancer takes the stage noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 9 at Town Square Park (10802 Town Square Dr. NE, Blaine).
Organizers of the event aim to entertain while raising money for the Minnesota Angel Foundation, an organization committed to helping families struggling with cancer diagnoses.
Bands Against Cancer features performances and entertainment throughout the day, face painting and faux tattoos for the kids and cancer awareness and information booths provided by the Angel Foundation.
Funds raised at the event will provide emergency financial assistance, education and support for local families when cancer strikes, said Chris Nguyen, 2013 graduate of Spring Lake Park High School who initiated the event three years ago.
Featured performing groups for the 2014 Bands Against Cancer include local musicians and YouTube artists, Mother Earth, Isabell Thao & Amanda Yang, Pong Yang, and Shee-Rah among them.
Nguyen touts “rock, pop, alternative, and cores of familiar songs” on the docket.
“The start of this event came from the passing of my father, which laid the foundation of our inspiration to aspire to help others in need,” said Nguyen, who spearheaded the fundraiser along with fellow organizer Huda Khatoon, also a 2013 Spring Lake Park High School graduate. Nguyen’s friends also helped organize.
Bands Against Cancer is presented by NguyenDustries, an events promotion entity started by Nguyen.
Tickets for the outdoor event ($7 each) are available onsite the day of the event. People are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating comfort.
