SLP Mrs. Jaycees earn state awards

Spring Lake Park Mrs. Jaycees were the recipients of several awards at the Minnesota Mrs. Jaycee annual summer awards meeting in Crookston July 19-20. Awards included first for aid to retarded citizens, accent on youth and Jaycee assistance. The club won a first in division for distinguished chapter, and placed third in the state overall.

Nelson head coach

Dave Nelson, a six-year assistant for the Bengal football team, became the school’s head coach late last month. He is the son of former Anoka coach, Stan Nelson, and brother of New England Patriots linebacker Steve Nelson.

Blaine junior royalty named to Aquatennial

Buddy Castellano, Jr. and Tandehl Collentine of the Blaine’s Blazin’ 4th Royalty were named to the 55th Minneapolis Aquatennial. Castellano was named Junior Vice Commodore and Collentine was named Junior Princess.
