Several of the top area prep golfers took part in the Minnesota Section of the PGA’s Junior Golf Association Players’ Tour year-end Tournament of Champions.
The 36-hole tournament was at Cragun’s near Brainerd Aug. 7-8.
Mason Fiddle, of Hugo, won the boys title at 2-under par.
Blaine graduate Joey Manthis tied for 13th place after an opening round 2-over par 74. Anoka’s Shawn Roo was 36th with rounds of 85 and 83.
Eagan’s Anni Heck won the girls title with rounds of 75 and 73 or 4-over par. Champlin’s Taylor Minger was 13th.
Formerly known as the Players Cup, the Warrior Cup is an invitation-only event for those with a win on the junior tour in either the 13-15 or 16-18 divisions.
Junior golfers, ages 16-18, hit the links at Rush Creek Golf Club for the end-of-the-season stop on the Minnesota Section of the PGA’s Valspar Junior Tour series Aug. 14.
Garrett Turnacliff, of Rogers; Bryce Thompson, of Lindstrom; and Jonathan Koenig, of Apple Valley, finished in a tie at the top of the leaderboard with 2-over par 74s. Blaine’s Dakota Krech tied for 17th place with a 10-over 82, and teammate Joshua Taylor tied for 22nd place at 11-over. Jacob Hoscheid, Ramsey, tied for 29th place at 13-over.
One week earlier, the 13-15 age division competed for the Warrior Cup at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club. Andover’s Benjamin Johnson tied for eighth place with a 5-over par 77, six strokes behind champion Bobby Park, of Lake Elmo.
On the girls’ side, Janice Kim, Blaine, tied for 11th place overall with a 15-over 87, 10 strokes behind champion Anni Heck, of Eagan.
