Blaine City Council adopts new crosswalk policy

Alex Larkin counts up how many signatures she and her brother Thomas collected on their kids petition to install a crosswalk near the corner of Lakes Parkway and West Lake Boulevard. Their mother, Becca Larkin, put out petitions for the adults to sign at Night to Unite block parties Aug. 5 and submitted this to the city of Blaine. The request and at least 15 others throughout the community will be evaluated when the snow and ice clears next spring. File photo by Olivia Alveshere

Blaine is easing up on its crosswalk policy to provide more opportunities for safe crossings on busy city streets.

The Blaine City Council Nov. 20 unanimously approved a revised crosswalk policy. The biggest change is that under the old policy, there needed to be at least 20 pedestrians crossing the street within an hour period. The new threshold is five people.
