Students to receive free admission to most SLPHS athletic events

Beginning with athletic events during the 2015-2016 school year, all Spring Lake Park High School students (grades nine through 12) will receive free admission to all home regular season athletic events, with the exception of dance team events and hockey games, for which the district does not control admission fees.

“We are implementing this idea to encourage more students to engage in all aspects of their high school experience and to support their fellow students,” said Matt St. Martin, SLPHS director of athletics and activities. “This is one more step we are taking to build on past successes and build an even more vibrant community at SLPHS in the future.”

Students will be admitted free to home regular season athletic events through the use of their student ID card or a separate admissions pass. The details are still being finalized and will be announced in the coming weeks. More information will be shared with high school students and parents prior to the start of the school year.

Admission fees for regular season SLPHS athletics events are $7 per event for adults, $5 per event for first- through eighth-grade students, and no cost for ages 65 and older and ages 5 and under.

Adults and students can also purchase annual passes for admission to any home regular season event. Annual passes for adults are $75 and $50 for first- through eighth-grade students. The passes can be purchased through the high school athletics and activities office.

Free admission is not provided to hockey events because games are held at Fogerty Arena, which is privately owned and the district does not provide staff for ticket selling or taking. In addition, the district’s agreement with the arena states that free, season or yearly passes are not accepted.

Dance events are not included in the free admission offer because the Northwest Suburban Conference receives the gate revenue for each of the four regular season conference dance competitions. The host member school receives a $400 stipend from the conference to cover the cost of ticket sellers and other event staff as needed.
