Blaine has been the fastest growing suburb in the Twin Cities in recent years, but there is still vacant land and older areas of the community that could be redeveloped. To address this, the city has hired an economic development manager.

Erik Thorvig, 33, took on the newly-created role last month after working for 10 years with the city of Anoka, first with the city’s planning department and later focusing on community development. This included the buying and selling of city property, attracting new development, managing the city’s economic development incentive programs and retaining businesses and encouraging expansion, all of which he will now do in Blaine.
