Julia Clifford, a graduate of Blaine High School and resident of Ham Lake, Sept. 7 was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women’s soccer goalkeeper of the week. The St. Cloud State University student stopped 17 shots in two games, including a career-high 10 at Michigan Tech on Sept. 4. She also turned away seven shots at Northern Michigan to earn her first clean sheet of the season. Clifford’s 10-save performance at Michigan Tech was the most saves by a SCSU goalkeeper since Brittany Plombon made 11 on Sept. 6, 2015, also versus Michigan Tech.
-Derrick Aminga, of Andover, Sept. 12 was named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer offensive player of the week. The University of Northwestern freshman played a critical role in Northwestern’s narrow loss in double overtime to St. Thomas University when he tallied team-best two shots on goal and scored his first collegiate goal in the game.
