The most contested race in Anoka County is for the St. Francis School Board with 13 candidates vying for five different seats.

The boundaries of School District 15 encompasses all or portions of Andover, Bethel, East Bethel, Linwood Township, Nowthen, Oak Grove and St. Francis in Anoka County and into the Isanti County communities of Athens Township and Stanford Township.

Four of the open seats are four-year terms. Incumbent board members Suzanne Erkel, of East Bethel; Janet Hunt, of Bethel; and Amy Kelly, of Andover, are seeking re-election. The challengers are St. Francis residents Meri Hass, Sarah Hunt and Laura Waterworth; Oak Grove residents Rob Schoenrock, Mike Starr and Sean Sullivan; and Bethel resident Alicia Johnson.

A fifth open seat on the Nov. 8 ballot is for a two-year term. The seat was held by David Roberts, who died unexpectedly June 20.

School Board Member Scott Schwarz, of Oak Grove, is currently occupying a seat that expires at the end of 2016 but he chose to file for this two-year term rather than trying to win another four-year term. He is being challenged by East Bethel resident Jill Anderson and St. Francis resident Peter Onstad for this two-year seat.
