Since 2013, I have primarily covered the Anoka-Hennepin and Spring Lake Park school districts as well as the city of Spring Lake Park for ABC Newspapers.

Between them, Coon Rapids couple Patti Hynes-McCarthy and Tom McCarthy have written, directed and produced 25 original Christmas shows through The Seasons Dinner Theatre.

This year, Hynes-McCarthy has written a sequel to a show that premiered back in 1993.

Twenty-three years ago, “Three Wishes for Christmas” centered on a little girl named Cassandra, and this year, “Three ‘More’ Wishes for Christmas” focuses on her daughter, Isabella, a very serious and skeptical 8-year-old.

Hynes-McCarthy finds inspiration for Christmas shows everywhere, and last year, she met actress Sally-Anne Hunt at an audition and knew even so many years later that she should write a sequel to “Three Wishes for Christmas.”

“It really took having her walk in,” Hynes-McCarthy said. “It’s a huge part.”

In “Three ‘More’ Wishes for Christmas,” Cassandra gives Isabella the same gift she received years ago, a magic lamp, in the hopes that she might hold on to her childhood a little longer.

Actor Timm Holmly returns as The Genie, the role he played back in 1993, and he is even wearing the same costume, Hynes-McCarthy said.

McCarthy directs the production, and Steve Quesnel serves as musical director.

“Three ‘More’ Wishes for Christmas,” a musical comedy, opened at The Seasons Dinner Theatre at Majestic Oaks Nov. 26 and will run through New Year’s Eve.

“It’s just been an overwhelmingly great response so far,” Hynes-McCarthy said.
