The first customer has been back every day. There have been people lined up before the donut shop opens at 5 a.m. on weekdays.
These are just a couple of anecdotal stories store manager Mary LaBarre shared about people’s excitement about the new Dunkin’ Donuts in Andover.
It’s a novelty in the Twin Cities with New Hope and Roseville having the only other full-serve, stand-alone Dunkin’ Donuts shops in the Twin Cities.
“People have said, ‘I’m from the east coast. I’m from Chicago. I’ve been waiting for this to come,’” LaBarre said.
The new Dunkin’ Donuts is located on the southwest corner of Bunker Lake and Hanson boulevards in a new shopping center built by Platinum Properties at 13650 Hanson Blvd.
It’s a quick stop for St. Francis resident Stephanie Hall Hanle as she drives south on Hanson Boulevard for her morning commute. She was “ecstatic” when she saw the new Dunkin’ Donuts open on March 15 and said the main reason she comes is for the iced coffee. She made a point of visiting Dunkin’ Donuts when she was visiting family in Florida.
Steve Terhaar, of Ham Lake, awarded himself a sweet treat after burning calories at the gym.
“I’m thrilled it’s open,” he said.
While known for its coffee and donuts, Dunkin’ Donuts also serves sandwiches for anyone looking for a bite to eat for lunch or dinner. The dining room hours are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. The drive-thru window will remain open until 10 p.m. every day.
So what’s the most popular donut?
“Chocolate or anything with sprinkles,” LaBarre said.
Along with traditional donuts, there will always be a “donut of the month.” The featured donut in March is a chocolate croissant. April’s donut will be a peanut butter chocolate glaze croissant.
The Andover Dunkin’ Donuts is owned by a Minnesota franchise group Kod Kod. The business partners – Teddy Nachmias and Steve Silberfarb – also opened the New Hope location. Kod Kod plans to open 12 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in the Twin Cities and in Alexandria and St. Cloud as well. Nachmias said there are no other locations he can announce at this time.
Kod Kod is one of three franchise groups that plans to expand Dunkin’ Donuts presence in the metro. VANTive Group has the right to 12 franchise locations in the east metro and Eliasco received permission from the 67-year-old Massachusetts company to open 15 restaurants in the south metro.
