Clearing the ice in the Mississippi River

The annual ice gorge in the Mississippi river this spring was more severe and destructive than usual. Dynamite was used liberally but proved inadequate to open the solid ice above the Coon Creek dam so that free passage could be made for the immense gorge below Anoka.

School district music festival

The fifth district high school music festival will be held in Anoka high school auditorium on Saturday, April 18, starting at 1 p.m. with the massed band rehearsal. The program for the afternoon includes numbers from the various chamber music ensembles and band competition.

Hawaii murder suspect fighting extrication

An 18-year-old man arrested in Anoka March 5 by the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI on a federal warrant charging unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, is fighting extrication to face a murder charge in Hawaii, authorities said this week.
