Easter Eggstravaganza draws hundreds to Family of Christ Lutheran Church

Since 2013, I have primarily covered the Anoka-Hennepin and Spring Lake Park school districts as well as the city of Spring Lake Park for ABC Newspapers.

Hundreds came through Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Ham Lake April 8 for its 20th annual Easter Eggstravaganza.

In 1997, the Rev. Harold Wegner, now retired, started the event, which is so much more than an Easter egg hunt, though about 8,000 plastic eggs were filled with treats for kids to find in a ball pit outside.

The Easter Bunny was happy to pose for photos, but some children did not share its joy, cowering in fear when parents tried to place them on the bunny’s lap.

Numerous carnival games, inflatables, a magician and a petting zoo were available for families to enjoy.

The Ham Lake church’s Easter Garden allowed children to look inside Jesus’ empty tomb.
