North Suburban Concert Band plays popular music

Popular tunes will fill the Courtyards of Andover when the North Suburban Concert Band puts on its annual Pops Concert at the venue April 30.

The performance will be quite a departure from the ensemble’s last performance, its annual Cathedral Concert in March.

Less serious, the Pops Concert features selections from movie soundtracks and other popular pieces.

“It’s rather informal,” said Chris Coletta, band president. “It’s kind of cabaret-style.”

The full band plays, but smaller groups, including a jazz band with vocalists, also take the stage.

“It’s kind of free and loose,” Coletta said. “We just want to encourage families and their children to come out.”

The concert begins at 3 p.m. at the Courtyards of Andover, 13545 Martin St. NW, Andover. Tickets are $10. Youth ages 18 and under are admitted at no cost.
