County Road J improvements sought

County Road J, also known as 85th Ave. or “trouble” to residents along the street, was again brought up to Spring Lake Park City Council by citizens asking for additional traffic control. The road, which touches the communities of Blaine and Mounds View as well as Spring Lake Park, was recently the scene of a traffic fatality.

SLP Schools seeks to prevent suicides

Teenage suicide is now the third leading cause of death of school age children and adolescents. In an effort to address the dramatic increase in the suicidal behavior among these age groups, District 16’s schools just completed an eight-page brochure outlining guidelines for student suicide prevention. The brochure, which will be distributed to all faculty, will be used to help increase awareness among the staff of the growing problems of suicide. It also identifies the risk factors and intervention procedures involved.

County to help Red River Valley

An Anoka Countywide flood relief effort will target Polk County in northwestern Minnesota. This emerged from a meeting April 24 at the Coon Rapids City Center, attended by some 40 people from the public and private sectors, at which the Anoka County Red River Flood Relief Project was born.
