Post-nuptial shower

The members of the Home Club gave a pretty post-nuptial shower for Mrs. Ross Sheley, at the home of her mother, Mrs. A.A. Caswell, Friday afternoon. On account of Major Caswell being unexpectedly summoned to Fort Sill, Okla., the marriage was hastened, giving no opportunity for any social affairs. Many pretty and useful gifts were received. The initiative in war economy was taken when no refreshments were served.

Greenhaven golf course gets creative

The weekly Twilight Golf League will be inaugurated at Greenhaven Golf club next Wednesday evening, June 17, at 6 p.m. In an effort to interest a greater number of people in playing golf, and enjoying the recreational facilities of the golf club, a few innovations have been added to this year’s program. Golf playing will start at 6 o’clock every Wednesday evening for the duration of the summer. On alternative Wednesdays, women are invited to augment the men in making up mixed foursomes.

FAA wants second airport in Anoka County

The Federal Aviation Agency would like Anoka to establish a satellite airport with a 3,000 foot runway and a cross runway, City Manager Sam Gesko told the City Commission Monday. It was further indicated that FAA, considering that the Anoka County Airport, Janes Field, will someday handle as much traffic as the twin cities facility, would like to see the Anoka airport located between Anoka and Elk River, rather than between Anoka and the Anoka County Airport.

Carp festival in Coon Rapids

The 10th annual Minnesota Carp Festival will take place June 14 at the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park. The festival, which drew more than 8,000 people last year, celebrates Carpio cyprinus (the carp). The popular event includes a carp fishing contest, a carp karaoke contest, kids’ games, carp tasting, an art fair, community bands, environmental groups, a boat show, food, carp souvenirs and state entertainment, including a fiddlers jam session, a carp opera and music by the Rockin’ Hollywoods.
