Since 2013, I have primarily covered the Anoka-Hennepin and Spring Lake Park school districts as well as the city of Spring Lake Park for ABC Newspapers.

The Northern Symphony Orchestra has planned a patriotic performance to celebrate the United States’ 241st birthday.

The ensemble’s “Musical Fireworks” program will once again precede the city of Anoka’s annual fireworks show at Anoka High School, 3939 N. Seventh Ave., July 3.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and free for youth 18 and under.

The orchestra, under the direction of Michael Halstenson, will perform “America the Beautiful,” “Liberty Bell March,” the “1812 Overture,” “Stars and Stripes Forever” and other orchestral favorites.

“This is one of our favorite nights of the year,” Halstenson said. “Summer is here, people are ready to celebrate, it’s cool inside and the fireworks are spectacular.”
