The Stone Brook Academy day care in Ramsey is slated to break ground soon.
The Ramsey City Council approved different motions on July 25 and Aug. 8 to keep this project moving forward. Jeff Benedict, of Vanguard Construction, said on Aug. 8 that groundbreaking would happen in two to three weeks and construction would take four-and-a-half months.
Stone Brook Academy will be located east of the shopping center anchored by Coborn’s. The building will be 9,100 square feet and there will be a 2,300-square-foot outdoor playground.
The council approved a $100,000 loan from the city’s Economic Development Authority Revolving Loan Fund. The re-payment term is 15 years with 3 percent interest. The city’s loan consultant CMDC Business Financing and the Ramsey EDA recommended approval.
The city of Ramsey sold the 0.85-acre property for $121,852 to Andover residents Michael and Kristine Johnson, who pitched the idea of a day care center in this spot.
The developer will construct a new road through the property to connect Veterans Drive and Sunwood Drive. The city will reimburse 80 percent of the costs.
“I like the architecture of the new building. I think this will be a nice addition to The COR,” Council Member Mark Kuzma said.
