Coon Rapids/Andover American Little League teams had a number of highlights this summer including the introduction of a 50-70 intermediate program for 13-year-olds.
That team not only won the district and state titles but represented Minnesota in the regional tournament in Michigan with a fourth-place finish out of 10 teams, July 19-24.
The 7th District of VFW baseball split into four divisions this season, using four branches of military service: Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force.
Mike and Ryan Olson were just little tykes – hardly bigger than the walleye on the stringer – when their dad taught them how to bait a hook and drop a line.
Andover native Chase Perry was the latest hockey player invited to take part in the NHL’s scouting combine hosted in Toronto, Canada earlier in June.
Anoka senior Max Savini couldn’t write a much better finish to his prep golf days after tying for second place in the Class AAA state golf tournament played at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids June 10-11.
Blaine junior Alex Williams was in line to set a new state record in the 100-meter hurdles after a prelim time of 14.22. She beat the previous record of 14.32, set by Richfield standout Jessica January in 2012. A stumble on the wet track at Hamline University didn’t help Williams finish strong, but she settled for an eighth place finish in 17.61 seconds during Saturday’s Class AA finals.
