January was a very good month for the Andover boys’ hockey program. The team entered the second week of February on a nine-game winning streak following back-to-back losses to Forest Lake and Blaine to open the new year.
This fall might the last go-around for football conferences in the current format. Not because the conference is going away, but because of a change in how the Minnesota State High School League will have its members schedule games.
Coon Rapids junior guard Chris Buckley set the single-game scoring record at Coon Rapids with 40 points, but it wasn’t enough to give the Cardinals (1-16) their first Northwest Suburban Conference win of the season in an 83-81 loss to Blaine Jan. 24.
Forest Lake edged Anoka by 23 points for the Section 7AA True Team title at Northdale Middle School Jan. 18, but Anoka qualified for the Class AA state True Team meet through a wild card process after the meet.
