Dennis Arrell

Funeral service for Dennis F. “Denny” Arrell, 62, Coon Rapids, took place Nov. 13 at Church of the Epiphany, Coon Rapids.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Heather Petranek; grandson, Joey; granddaughter, Maddy Sue; sister, Jacqui (Bob) Berneck; brother, Tim Arrell; and many friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Susie McDonald.

Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.


Joanne Ballard

Memorial service for Joanne G. Ballard, Coon Rapids, will take place today (Friday, Nov. 20), 11 a.m., at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids.

Ballard died Nov. 12. She was a retired Honeywell employee.

She is survived by her children, Deborah (Gary) Hanson, David (Leslie), Michael (Nancy), Margie and John Jr.; granddaughters, Nicole, Brenna (Jon) Burris, Brittany, Kayla and Alexia; grandsons, Michael, David, Chris, Matt, Philip; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Jayden, Colton and Kaidynce; brother, John Pinc; sister, Francine Wilhelm (John); and sister-in-law, Jeannie Pinc.

She was preceded in death by her son, Mark; and brother, Frank Pinc.

Interment is at Epiphany Cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.


Douglas Beckman

Memorial service for Douglas Walter Beckman, 72, will take place tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 21), 11 a.m.,at Mattson Funeral Home, Forest Lake.

Beckman died Nov. 11 after a battle with ALS. He was born Feb. 18, 1937 in Minneapolis to Walter and Lucy (Ruffcorn) Beckman and served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Marge; mother, Lucy Beckman; children, Christine (Jim) Hill, Steven (Renee) Beckman, Timothy (Tabatha King) Beckman; stepchildren, Anna (Chris) Spiers, Rhonda (Joe) Findell, Melissa (Brian) Mathena, Jeff (Nancy) Riedemann, Kevin (Kari) Riedemann; grandchildren, Heather (Nick), Clara, JD, Joey; step-grandchildren, Amanda, Dillon, Taylor, Christine, Daniel, Ben, Hailey; great-grandchildren, Dorian and Kairi; sisters, Bessie (Pat) Kenney, Glenda (Don) Fradenburgh, Esther Sink; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter; first wife, Rita; son, Duane; and brothers-in-law, Brad and Gary.

Interment is at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mattson Funeral Home.


Jon Blaskey

Funeral service for Jon Michael Blaskey, 27, Anoka, took place Nov. 13 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Mike Van Sloun officiated.

Blaskey died Nov. 8 in Grand Rapids. He was born Jan. 21, 1982 in Fridley to Michael Jon and Chris McArdle Blaskey and was a parts company machinist.

He is survived by his daughter, Ava; parents, Phil and Chris Rice of Anoka, Michael and Danell Blaskey of Champlin; brothers, Ross Blaskey and Gavin Rice; sisters, Dana Blaskey and Lauren Rice; grandparents, Merrill and Virginia Blaskey of Brooklyn Park; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dave and Della McArdle; and aunt, Georgia Martin.

Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.


Ann Conway


Funeral service for Ann B. Conway, 99, Anoka, took place Nov. 17 at Church of St. Stephen, Anoka. Rev. Michael Van Sloun officiated.

Conway died Nov. 12 in St. Paul. She was born April 10, 1910 in Shafer to Edgar and Mathilda Wierschem Bullard and was a retired health care supervisor.

She is survived by her daughter, Martha; granddaughter, Kathleen (Bruce); siblings, Fred (Lorna) Bullard, Jean Duelmann; son-in-law, Joe Claus and his children Katie (Travis), Michael (Joann); great-grandchildren, Samantha, Sydney, Kadin; and Ted (Dorthy) Mueller, Nancy Mueller and Ted and Nancy’s children Jeff, Jennifer, Claudia, Beth, Paul and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and son, Ken.

Pallbearers were Sheldon Lehman, Ralph Altenweg, Rich Kollar, Bruce Trusty and Jeff and Paul Mueller.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home.


Corrine Hansen


Funeral service for Corrine K. Hansen, 70, Brooklyn Park, took place Nov. 18 at Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter, Michelle Conant; grandchildren, Jensen and Blake; siblings, Sandy (Earl) Sainio, Linda (Charlie) Koenig, Nick Smith and Ann (Jeff) Drew; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Grace Smith.

Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Coon Rapids Chapel.


Samantha Johnson


Funeral service for Samantha Jean Johnson, 13, Coon Rapids, took place Nov. 17 at Zion Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Mark Tiede officiated.

Johnson died Nov. 11. She was born July 7, 1996 in Minneapolis and was an eighth-grade student at Fred Moore Middle School.

She is survived by her parents, Michele Johnson and John Bolanda; grandparents, Gloria Petranek and Michael Johnson; uncles, Troy (Vanessa) and Tom Johnson; and many family and friends.

Interment was private. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.


Morris Kinikin

Funeral service for Morris R. Kinikin, 90, Brooklyn Park, formerly of Blaine, took place Nov. 16 at Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Ray Bell officiated.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Marsha (Joe) Eull, JoAnn (Kevyn) Snavely, Carol (Denny) Chappuis, Patrick (Yong) Zieglmeier, Michael (Ok) Zieglmeier, Cyril (Lesley) Zieglmeier; daughter-in-law, Nancy Lanz; 15 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Margie and Bernadine; parents, Jerry and Mildred; son, Richard; daughter, Shirley; brothers, Curtis and Everett; and sister, Kathryn.

Private interment took place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Anoka.


James Penberthy

Funeral service for James L. Penberthy, 72, Andover, took place Nov. 19 at Church of St. Patrick, Oak Grove. Rev. David Blume officiated.

Penberthy died Nov. 15. He was born April 27, 1937 in Ironwood, Mich., to James and Mary Penberthy and was a retired field service engineer at Bayer Corp.

He is survived by his wife, Leona; children, Elaine (Mark) Louiselle, Diane (Jeff) Erickson, Jim, Natalie (Todd) Dietz; nine grandchildren; sisters, Donna (Bob) Erickson and Ruth Barlow; special niece, Donna Barlow; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Jeanne Cramblit and Carol Barlow.

Pallbearers were Tony and Mark Louiselle, Todd and Michael Dietz, Nick Penberthy and Sam and Jeff Erickson.

Interment was at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Oak Grove. Arrangements were by Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, Andover.


Oneeta Reuter


Funeral service for Oneeta Wanda Reuter, 96, Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Anoka, took place Nov. 16 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Chapel, Anoka. Rev. Gary Wilkerson.

Reuter died Oct. 30. She was born April 13, 1013 in Kiota, Mo., to Charles E. and Fanny F. (Gault) Tracy and was a retired nurse at the state hospital.

She is survived by her children, Charles Reuter, Dallas (Nancy) Reuter and MaryKay (Larry) Schmidt; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and  nieces and nephews.

Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.


Jeffery Skoglund

Funeral service for Jeffery Conley Skoglund, 49, Oak Grove, took place Nov. 14 at Church of St. Patrick of Cedar Creek. Rev. David N. Blume officiated.

Skoglund died accidentally Nov. 10 while riding his motorcycle in Princeton. He was born Sept. 6, 1960 in Crookston to Roger Sonied and Mildred Lillian (Gunderson) Skoglund. He was a machinist at Honeywell for 20 years and a member of the Sno Ghost Snowmobile Club.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie; children, Laina, Terra and Kayla; mother, Mildred; siblings, Ralph, Linda and Lauree Skoglund, Robyn (Bob) Grissman; mother- and father-in-law, Mary Ann and Don Pojar; sisters-in-law, Kathy and Liz Pojar; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roger; brother-in-law, John Pojar; and grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Interment was at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Oak Grove. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.


Dorothy Smogard


Funeral service for Dorothy Mae Smogard, 86, Buffalo, took place Nov. 18 at St. Philip The Deacon Lutheran Church, Plymouth. Rev. David Hoffman officiated.

Smogard died Nov. 13 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis. She was born Dec. 17, 1922 in Minneapolis to Frank David and Mae Elizabeth (Schoenherr) Waterman and was retired from Honeywell.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Kent) Hagen of Ham Lake and Diane (Joel) Mastel of Buffalo; grandchildren, Rayne, Breanne and Leah Hagen, Chase and Cody Mastel; brothers, Glenn, Donald (Doris), Ken (Pat), Robert (Jackie), Richard (Lois), Rev. David (Arlene), Russell (Marcella) and Jim; sister, Lucille (Ted) Garner; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merril; parents, Frank and Mae Waterman; brothers, Harvey, Harold and Mel; and sisters, Betty Sands and Jackie Austin.

Pallbearers were Kent, Rayne, Breanne and Leah Hagen and Joel, Chase and Cody Mastel.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home, Anoka.


Valerie Steinberg


Memorial service for Valerie Jean “Jeanie” (Nohr) Steinberg, 54, Princeton, took place Nov. 17 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Norman R. Berg officiated.

Steinberg died Nov. 11. She was born Aug. 4, 1955 in Minot, N.D., to LeRoy Herbert and Joyce Henrietta (Ness) Nohr and was a home health aide.

She is survived by her children, Scott (Tiffany), Todd (Becky), Chad, Bill Jr. (Kristen), Wendy (Mike) Frachon and Ericka Wheeler; nine grandchildren; parents, LeRoy and Joyce Nohr; four sisters; three brothers; former husband, William Sr.; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Lee.

Interment was private. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.


Grace Strike


Funeral service for Grace Ruth Strike, 86, Coon Rapids, took place Nov. 12 at Coon Rapids Evangelical Free Church. Rev. Russell Benson officiated.

Strike died Nov. 9 at Golden Living Center Greeley in Stillwater. She was born Nov. 16, 1922 in Minneapolis to Joe and Ruth Nelson. She owned and operated her beauty shop until 2004 and she and her late husband Ralph helped build the original Coon Rapids Evangelical Free Church building.

She is survived by her son, Charles (Megan) Strike and their son Travis of Marine on St. Croix; sister, Jean (Merlyn) Johnson of California; and other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sally; husband Ralph; and her brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Evie Nelson.

Pallbearers were Chuck and Travis Strike, Kevin Gange, Kim Nelson and Ole, Steve and Dave Svendsen.

Interment was in Strike Cemetery in rural Isanti. Arrangements were by Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel.  


Ruth von Throst

Funeral service for Ruth M. von Throst, 64, Spring Lake Park, took place Nov. 11 at Gearhart Funeral Home, Coon Rapids.

von Throst died Nov. 3 in Fridley. She was born Aug. 23, 1945 to Henry and Lucy Hohrein.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter, Ginger McIntyre; sons, Mark and Albert Griffith; and many grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lucy; and son, Andrew Griffith.

Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Home, Coon Rapids.


Inez Wilcox


Memorial service for Inez Irene (Lyman) Wilcox, 79, Yuma, Ariz, formerly of Blaine, will take place Jat the Gila Mountain United Methodist Church, Yuma, Jan. 2, 2010 at 11 a.m.

Wilcox died Aug. 15 after suffering a massive stroke three days earlier. She was born Oct. 9, 1930 in Redwood Falls. When she worked at Hennepin County Medical Center in the high-risk-labor-delivery department.

She is survived by her children, Harvey Tanttila and his wife Jackie of Wasilla, Alaska; Margie Tanttila and her husband Fred Hawley of Lovelock, Nev.; and Patricia Tanttila and her husband Dan Yansura of Pacifica, Calif.  

Interment will be at the Marshall Cemetery, Nimrod.


Barbara Zimmerman


Memorial service for Barbara Ann Zimmerman, 72, Anoka, took place Nov. 18 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Scott Frederickson officiated.

Zimmerman died Nov. 13 at North Memorial Residential Hospice, Brooklyn Center. She was born Sept. 23, 1937 in Pipestone to Otto Phillip and Josephine Rota (Noteboom) Weyhrich and was retired buyer at Cornelius.

She is survived by her children, Richard (Tami), Daniel (Teresa) and Andrew; stepchildren, Aimee Hassell, Chris Hassell and Glenda Hassell Kruger; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Peter (Lorriane) Weyhrich; special friend, Larry Berg; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Hassell; parents, Otto and Josephine Weyhrich; sisters, Joyce James, Lois Beste and Judy Kirchner; and stepdaughter, Brenda Straughn.

Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
