Election season has come for municipalities who have no primaries.

Residents of Andover, East Bethel, Ham Lake, Oak Grove, Nowthen and St. Francis will have two weeks to register for the chance to represent their community. Filings for all these communities open Aug. 3 and close at the end of the city hall business day on Aug. 17.

Prospective candidates have the chance to withdraw by the end of the city hall business day on Thursday, Aug. 19. Everyone who signs up will be on the Nov. 2 ballot.

Andover

The Andover mayor’s two-year seat currently held by Mike Gamache is up for election. In addition, the four-year terms of Councilmembers Don Jacobson and Julie Trude are coming to an end.

 Trude is running for the District 5 Anoka County Commissioner seat.

Filings open at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3 and closes at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17.

The filing fee is $5.

Affidavits of candidacy must be filed with the deputy city clerk at Andover City Hall, 1685 Crosstown Blvd. N.W.

East Bethel

The two-year mayor’s seat in East Bethel now occupied by Greg Hunter and two four-year councilmember seats held by Steve Channer and Kathy Paavola are on the ballot this fall.

Channer became a councilmember Dec. 16, 2009 after the East Bethel City Council appointed him to complete the term of Councilmember Anne Klein. She resigned because her family moved out of the area.

The filing period opens at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3 and closes at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17.

Affidavits of candidacy must be filed with the deputy city clerk at East Bethel City Hall, 2241 221st Ave. N.E.

The filing fee is $5.

Ham Lake

The four-year term of Ham Lake mayor is up for election and with Mayor Paul Meunier running for the Minnesota Senate District 49 seat for the Democratic Labor Farmer (DFL) Party, the seat is wide open.

Four-year councilmember seats held by Julie Braastad and Diane Theodorski are also on the ballot this fall.

The filing period opens at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2 and ends at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17.

There is a $25 filing fee.

Affidavits of candidacy must be filed with the Administrator of the City of Ham Lake at Ham Lake City Hall, 15544 Central Ave. N.E.

Nowthen

Two, four-year council seat and the two-year mayor’s seat are up for grabs in the general election in Nowthen.

The seats are currently held by Mayor Bill Schulz and Councilmembers Harlan Meyer and Jeffrey Pilon.

Interested individuals can file at Nowthen City Hall, 8188 199th Ave. N.W.

There is a $2 filing fee.

Oak Grove


Two four-year council terms and the mayor’s four-year seat are up for grabs in Oak Grove.

These are currently held by Mayor Jim Iund and Councilmembers Mike Wylie and Oscar Olson. Olson was appointed to the council earlier this year after former Councilmember Kristen Anderson resigned effective Dec. 31, 2009.

Candidates can file for office at Oak Grove City Hall, 19900 Nightingale St. N.W., during regular hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Office hours will be extended until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17 to accept filings.

There is a $2 filing fee.

St. Francis


The city is St. Francis is looking for a few good candidates for mayor and city council.

Candidate filings for the two-year mayor term and two four-year city council terms will open Tuesday, Aug. 3, 8 a.m. and close 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17.

Interested residents will need to file a candidate form at city hall, 23340 Cree St. N.W., and pay the city clerk the filing fee of $5.

The seats on the Nov. 2 general election ballot are current held by Mayor Jerry Tveit and Councilmembers Tim Brown and LeRoy Schaffer.
