If you haven’t heard the international award-winning golden tones of the Land of Lakes Choirboy of Minnesota, now’s your chance. The boys, ranging in age from 5 to 14 will perform their 32nd annual spring concert, “Music in Your Soul,” May 3, at Benson Great Hall, Bethel University in Arden Hills. Five choirs – the Prep Choir, the Resident Choir, the Nordic Choir and Viking Choir - will perform. The Alumni Choir, comprising 16 young men ages 14 to mid-20s will also sing. The Nordic Choir tours nationally, while the Viking Choir, winner of international awards, tours worldwide. The concert will open with the Alumni Choir, which will sing “Salute to America” by Mark Hayes and “Good Night Ladies” from the Broadway musical “Music Man.” Among other concert selections are: the Viking Choir will sing E. Daley’s “Ave Maria,” “Little David Play on Your Harp,” a spiritual arranged by Amani and “All Ye Who Music Love,” by B. Donato. The Nordic Choir will sing “Shenandoah,” arranged by Crocker and “Go Down Moses” arranged by Hayes. The prep choir (ages five to seven) will sing “Michael Row the Boat Ashore,” “We Shall Not be Moved,” “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” and an Austrian folk song, “The Cuckoo.” The Resident Choir will sing “Blow the Man Down,” arranged by Hadley and “The Yankee Doodle Boy” by Howarth. The boys will sing more songs in English, Latin, German and other languages. The choirs are led by directors Craig Carmody-Anderson, founding director, and Francis Stockwell, who holds concert diplomas for pianoforte from Trinity College of Music, London, England, the Royal Schools of Music, London and a bachelor’s degree in music and languages from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Aaron Carpenter, who holds a degree in vocal performance from St. John’s University, Collegeville, also conducts. Accompanists are Jennifer Maxfield, Francis Stockwell and Lisa Griffin. The boys practice at their headquarters in Burns Township between St. Francis and Nowthen just north of Anoka. Dessert reception/silent auction starts at 5 p.m. at the May 3 concert. The concert starts at 6 p.m. Last year, the boys performed to a packed auditorium. This summer, the Viking Choir will be touring for five weeks in France, Germany and then it will compete in the World Choir Olympics in Graz, Austria. The Nordic Choir will tour the central United States, including stops in Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for students and seniors.
