NSC Stars future is up in the air

Nine months after the idea of bringing back professional soccer to the National Sports Center in Blaine, became a reality, the future of the NSC Minnesota Stars after the 2010 season looks bleak at best without some help from community.

One of the Stars top additions during training camp was Two Boys Gumede, left, a South African national, who became the Conference- USA Player of the Year playing at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Photo by Jason Olson

Blaine Historical Society presents new city flag PDF Print
Wednesday, 07 May 2008
59blainecityflag1.jpgKaren Klinkenberg, Orville Lindquist and Kay Leon, representing the Blaine Historical Society, present Mayor Tom Ryan with one of two new city flags during an offical ceremony May 1 at Blaine City Hall. Several designs were considered for the new city flag. The design of the new flag stems from a contest that was held many years ago by the Blaine Recreation Department and the Spring Lake Park Bank. The winning design was submitted by Mrs. Stanley (Bernadette) Thorup. In her design, the basic color of the flag reverts back to Sen. James Blaine, after whom the city is named. Blaine served two terms as secretary of state, in 1881 and 1889. The flag for that office had a dark blue background with one white star in each of the four corners. (Photo by Tim Hennagir)
