Singers are wanted for Lyric Arts Company of Anoka’s fourth annual Anoka Superstar karaoke contest.
The contest takes place during Anoka Riverfest and Craft Fair, July 12, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Anoka Superstar tent (located at Second Avenue and Jackson Street).
“Every year we’ve been amazed by the increasingly high-quality, high-talent contestants we’ve had entering the competition,” said Laura Tahja Johnson, managing director of Lyric Arts Main Street Stage. “We can only assume that this year’s competition will be bigger and better.”
The first-place winner is decided by an audience vote. They will receive a cash prize of $300 and the opportunity to sing during the 2008 Anoka Halloween events.
The second-place winner receives a $200 prize and the third- and fourth-place winners receive a cash prize of $50.
All of the winners will also receive tickets to Lyric Arts Main Street Stage productions.
How to enter
It’s relatively easy to enter this contest. The only requirement is that the contestant is 16 years or older.

by 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 10.
However, if there are any remaining time slots available, walk-up registrations will be taken the day of the event, 15 minutes before the competition.
Contestants select their own song choice. They can either bring their own music or choose from a selection provided at the event.
