Coon Rapids on a roll heading into its final two games PDF Print
Monday, 06 October 2008
As it prepared for the final two games of the regular season — over a five-day period Friday and next Wednesday — Coon Rapids rolled up 349 yards in offense last Friday night during its 42-8 dismantling of Park Center in Northwest Suburban play.
Quarterback Blair Townsend finished the night in an exceptionally efficient manner by completing 14 of 16 passes for 173 yards and four touchdowns. He collaborated with Jerrad Zimmel for one (14 yards) that gave Coon Rapids a 7-0 first quarter lead, then hooked up with Evan Lowe (17 and 34 yards) twice during a 27-point second quarter.
Townsend completed his night with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Snook in the third quarter.
Lowe also had a 6-yard touchdown run during the second quarter and Jeremy Oakley scored on a 19-yard run. The remaining two points came via a third-quarter safety. Park Center scored its lone touchdown and two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.
“I am proud of our team’s accomplishments the past two weeks,” said coach Jon Young, who elaborated:
“We played teams that have been struggling, but our kids kept their focus in practice for two weeks and prepared themselves to be better. The kids did not overlook either Elk River or Park Center (which Coon Rapids collectively out-pointed 99-8), but worked hard and played hard.
“We hope that carries over for the rest of our season — the last two regular season games (against Osseo and Centennial) and, of course, the playoffs...”
