Staff writer Three of Anoka-Hennepin School District 11’s six school board seats will be on the ballot this fall. The seats are currently held by: • Boardmember and Vice Chairman John Hoffman (representing District 3: Coon Rapids, Champlin and Dayton). • Boardmember Michael Sullivan (representing District 4: Andover, Ham Lake, Nowthen, Oak Grove and Ramsey). • Boardmember Kathy Tingelstad (representing District 6: Coon Rapids east, southwest and Andover). (This seat was held by Jerry Newton until he was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in November 2008.) Candidate filings begin Aug. 25 and close 5 p.m. Sept. 8. The election is Tuesday, Nov. 3. An affidavit of candidacy, available from the school district clerk, must be filed in the Anoka County Elections Office, 325 East Main St., Room W130, Anoka, before Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. The filing fee is $2. The affidavit must be filed for candidacy in a specific election district (see above). A candidate for school boardmember must be an eligible voter, must be 21 years of age or more on assuming office, must have been a resident of the school district from which the candidate seeks election for 30 days before the general election and must have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same primary or general election. The last day to withdraw a filing is Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. The four-year terms start Jan. 11, 2010 – the school board’s first meeting of the new calendar year. Board members attend two school board meetings each month, serve as school liaisons and attend other District 11 education and community-oriented events. The board meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. District 11 serves approximately 40,500 students and 248,000 residents of Anoka and Hennepin counties. The largest school district in Minnesota, Anoka-Hennepin operates two kindergarten centers, 28 elementary schools, seven middle schools (grades six through eight) and five high schools, plus alternative middle and high school sites.
