The Anoka County Board has given the Anoka County Library Board the green light to move forward with a computer network project for the county library system.
The county board, on the recommendation of its Fiscal Control Committee, has authorized the library board to enter into a contract with CDW-G in an amount not to exceed $35,000 for network implementation services and to spend up to $130,000 to purchase the necessary equipment.
Not only will the project upgrade the library’s current network system, it will also fold it into the overall county computer network.
“This upgrade is desperately needed to increase security, replace aging equipment and bring the library into the county’s network,” said Marlene Moulton Janssen, county library director.
Money for the project was included in the county board’s 2009 capital improvements budget.
Bringing the library’s computer network into the county’s overall network system will be of great benefit to the county, according to County Commissioner Jim Kordiak, county board liaison to the library board.
“We will all be better off for it,” Kordiak said.
An upgrade for wireless service data is also planned to increase the library’s network security, Moulton Janssen said.
A site survey has been done, but a final decision has not yet been made, she said.
“The library board will bring equipment purchases for an upgrade of wireless services to the Fiscal Control Committee in November, if necessary,” Moulton Janssen said.
