When U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann and U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar recommended that the Anoka High School Marching Tornadoes march in Washington, D.C.’s National Independence Day Parade, band director Ben Bussey wasn’t about to turn it down.

High School clay target shooting leagues more than doubled the number of participants this spring which ended with more than 2,000 young shooters taking part in the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League State Tournament at the Alexandria Shooting Park June 7-9.

Four area high schools were among 56 schools honored for accomplishments in musical theater in the 2012-13 SpotLight Musical Theater Program. For the 53rd consecutive year, Anoka Alumni Letterman’s Club hosted its banquet and scholarship ceremony May 28 at Green Haven Golf Course in Anoka. More than 175 A-club members (Anoka graduates dating back to classes of the 1940s) gathered for a golf event, silent auction, dinner, presentation of the 2013 Everette Vevea and Jack Blesi memorial scholarships and a keynote address by University of Minnesota Athletic Director Norwood Teague.
