More than 30 Anoka girls soccer alumnae returned to Goodrich Field last Saturday as players from the last two decades competed on teams coached by the only two coaches the program has known since 1992: Sara Chartier (1992-1999) and Paul Anderla (2000-2013).
About midway thought the season and coach Paul Anderla has the Anoka girls’ soccer team 2-3-0 (3-5-0 overall) and in sixth place in the Northwest Suburban Conference.
Seventh-ranked Blaine boys’ soccer handed sixth-ranked Anoka a bit of an upset by a 3-1 score at Bengals Stadium Tuesday night.
Quality play is one way to describe the potential for boys’ soccer this fall, given the Class AA state runner-ups (Blaine) return several players alongside traditional powerhouse Anoka.
Among the story lines coming into the season ranging from Blaine looking to return to state, Anoka breaking through to state and Andover repeating its second place finish in the Northwest Suburban Conference standings including a 13-win regular season.
