After coming off a couple of tough losses against league rivals Coon Rapids Redbirds and Blaine Fusion, the Anoka Bucs town ball team took to Castle Field July 28 for its first home field baseball game there.
The Blaine Area Little League B.A.L.L. hosted its second annual 8- and 9-Year Old B.A.L.L. Invitational July 24-27 at the Blaine Baseball Complex.
Sixteen teams of 8-and 9-year-olds from little league organizations representing Blaine, Coon Rapids, Crystal, Golden Valley, Hastings, Hopkins, Minnetonka, New Hope, Otsego, Plymouth, Robbinsdale, Spring Lake Park and St. Louis Park will compete in the four-day tournament.
The second half of the Metro Minny League schedule should be an entertaining, but packed July schedule.
According to the league web site, no team has played more than 11 games, so “let the pennant fever begin.”
The official opener for the new Castle Field in Anoka appeared to be going strong for the home team, Anoka Post 102, but an early lead quickly evaporated in favor of Coon Rapids Post 334 in a 6-1 win July 11.
Anoka christened Castle Field with a Legion Post 102 alumni game July 3.
The game featured the current 18-man roster along with 32 former players for a maroon versus white exhibition game. Maroon took the win 9-6 as many memories were made at the brand-new baseball complex.
