For the third year in a row, Coon Rapids and Blaine met outside in January to renew their girls’ hockey rivalry.
Andover established itself at the top of the Northwest Suburban Conference standings following a 2-0 win at Maple Grove Jan. 8. Andover’s Krista Flanagan scored twice on the power play in the first period as the Huskies rode the lead to its 12th win of the season.

For the first time in four years, Blaine (9-4) scored first in the annual Teddy Bear toss game, in which the first goal of the game triggers fans of both teams toss stuffed animals onto the ice. The animals are collected by both teams and donated to area hospitals, police, fire and crisis shelters.
The latest big win of the season came Saturday evening as No. 8-ranked Blaine (4-0-1) upset No. 4 ranked and defending Class AA champion Benilde-St. Margaret’s (3-2-0) 6-5 in St. Louis Park Dec. 15.
