A highly-charged atmosphere at Blaine High School set the tone for what was a classic boys’ basketball section final as No. 2 seed DeLaSalle up-ended No. 1 seed Spring Lake Park 62-55 to win the Section 3AAA title March 16.
Blaine led by 15 points at the break and increased that to as many as 32 points in the second half of its Section 7AAAA opener against Cambridge-Isanti 73-44 March 9. Top-seed Spring Lake Park made quick work of St. Paul Como Park in its Section 3AAA opener March 8, 101-68. Panthers senior Sean Scott had a game-high 36 points and Bryce Williams added 20 points. CTN recaps the Cardinals 60-49 loss to Maple Grove March 6. The Northwest Suburban Conference loss sends Coon Rapids to 6-19 overall. Evonte Hibbler had 14 points and Joe Chirilla and Edvonte Hibbler each had eight points for the Cardinals.
Anoka’s senior gaurd, Marcus Tyus was once again the game’s top scorer during an 82-64 home victory over Blaine on Feb. 21. Tyus put up a total 33-points for the Tornadoes, showing his ability to push past a recent family tragedy and focus on the task at hand.
