A highly-charged atmosphere at Blaine High School set the tone for what was a classic boys’ basketball section final as No. 2 seed DeLaSalle up-ended No. 1 seed Spring Lake Park 62-55 to win the Section 3AAA title March 16.
Blaine led by 15 points at the break and increased that to as many as 32 points in the second half of its Section 7AAAA opener against Cambridge-Isanti 73-44 March 9. A young Andover team fell 13 points, 65-52, on their home court to a taller, stronger and deeper Blaine squad during the last week of regular season play, Feb. 28.
Anoka’s senior gaurd, Marcus Tyus was once again the game’s top scorer during an 82-64 home victory over Blaine on Feb. 21. Tyus put up a total 33-points for the Tornadoes, showing his ability to push past a recent family tragedy and focus on the task at hand.
