Action by the Anoka County Board has cleared the way for a project to reconstruct Bridge Street (Highway 24) in the city of St. Francis from Poppy Street/Rum River Boulevard (County Road 72) to Lake George Boulevard next year.
After learning on July 7 that Anoka County has reduced the city’s portion of costs for the 2015 Bridge Street reconstruction project, the St. Francis City Council unanimously approved a joint powers agreement with the county for that project.
A proposed joint powers agreement presented by the Anoka County Highway Department to the St. Francis City Council on June 2 estimates the city’s portion of costs related to the 2015 reconstruction and addition of roundabouts on Bridge Street (Highway 24) at $670,624.60.
Many of the approximately 40 St. Francis residents who turned out for a Nov. 6 informational open house on a proposal to construct two roundabouts on the city’s Bridge Street aren’t convinced that the project is a good idea.
The Anoka County Highway Department will hold an open house Wednesday, Nov. 6, 6-8 p.m. at St. Francis High School for those who would like to learn more about the Bridge Street roundabout project scheduled for construction in 2015.
