Blaine standout Caleb Butler finished his final prep season in a Bengal uniform at the state track and field meet June 7.
Butler, a three-sport captain for the Bengals, will play football in the fall at North Dakota State University. But before he could turn his focus to the gridiron, he had to give it his all in the throwing events at the state meet.
The Bengals wrestled to very lofty results with both state qualifiers placing among the best in the state. Sophomore Malik Stewart lost his section final rematch in the 120-pound state championship to St. Michael-Albertville’s Michael McKee.
Blaine won its third straight game and posted a season-high points total in a 42-20 win at Centennial Oct. 11. The Bengals (5-2) have things going the right direction after back-to-back losses to good Osseo and Maple Grove programs in weeks three and four.
Blaine put two losses behind them while spoiling Coon Rapids’ homecoming game 41-14, Sept. 27. Cardinals Stadium was hoping with a rabid student section proud to share their Cardinal Nation pride throughout the deceptively one-side score.
Four area schools will be represented at the Class AA State Track and Field Meet after successful performances at the Section 5AA meet held on the same track as the state meet.
Blaine track and field swept the boys and girls Section 5AAA True Team titles and will compete Class AAA State True Team meet at Hamline University May 17.
Fans inside Panthers Stadium were treated to an action-packed finish as Spring Lake Park held on for a 27-26 win against Andover in the Section 4-AAAAA football semifinal Oct. 27.
