Coon Rapids boys’ cross country is hosting its first Cardinal Mile Time Trial and Roller Ski Exhibition Mile in front of Coon Rapids High School Sept. 25.
After dealing with the heat just before the season was set to begin, area cross country teams found plenty of early season competition.
Just before the temperatures went from uncomfortably hot to downright dangerous, cross country teams hit the trails at Northwoods Park in Brooklyn Park for the Rebel Northwoods Invite Aug. 23.
Coon Rapids boys’ and girls’ cross country turned in great team-wide races at the Section 5AA meet Thursday afternoon at Anoka High School.
Participation in varsity-level activities once again came to light during Monday’s Anoka-Hennepin School Board meeting as members of the Coon Rapids girls’ cross country team showed up in support of eighth-grader Bryna DelCasatillo being allowed to run varsity-level races, among others in the district.
When Blaine High School (BHS) cross country coach Rachel Karel introduced Tom Anderson, a member of her team, and Ally Anderson, a student in her Spanish class and yearbook photo editor, she said, “Ally, Tom. Tom, Ally. You made each other famous.”
Andover’s Steven Cotter set a new school record in the 5,000 meter race on Sept. 14 with the boys’ cross country team at Lakeville’s Apple Jack Invitational.
The Grandy Nine Golf Course in Stanchfield set the stage for eight local high school girls’ and boys’ cross country teams to run for autumn glory when Cambridge-Isanti hosted its invitational tournament there Sept. 6.
