Down 13-0 less than three minutes into the Class 5A state quarterfinal, Andover (7-4) looked to be headed in the wrong direction against Chaska (11-0) in a blustery Kuhlman Stadium in Edina Nov. 9.
If Andover’s Section 4-5A opening round 42-3 win against Irondale is a sign of things to come, whoever plays the No. 2 seed in the final might want to take notice.
After scoring 20 points in its previous three losses, Andover returned to form with a 50-14 win at Robbinsdale Armstrong Oct. 15 to end an up-and-down regular season with a 5-3 record.
For the second week in a row Andover was kept to one score, this time at the hands of Totino-Grace at Huskies Stadium, 39-6 on Oct. 4.
Andover’s offense was frustrated by Osseo’s pass rush that disrupted the rhythm of one of the top offenses through the first four weeks of the football season in Osseo’s 20-7 victory at the Orioles home field Sept. 27.
Andover’s offense continues to pile up the points as running back Derek McLaughlin rushed for 181 yards and three touchdowns and quarterback Connor Wilkie completed 12-18 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns when the Huskies moved to 4-0 with a 35-20 win at Elk River (0-4) Sept. 20.
Andover and Coon Rapids came together to help raise money through the Tackle Cancer program during Friday’s football game at Huskies Stadium on a picturesque fall evening. Andover (3-0) topped Coon Rapids (1-2) 40-14 in a Northwest Suburban Conference contest Sept. 13.
The friendly rivalry between Anoka (1-1) and Andover (2-0) reached a new high after the Huskies walked off Anoka’s Goodrich Field with a 42-17 win Sept. 7.
